Knee and Ankle Pain
Knee/Foot/Ankle Sprain- This is an injury to the ligaments causing inflammation, bruising and pain. The cause can be as simple as standing too long at work or a simple twist of the knee, ankle or foot. Keeping the area cold will decrease the inflammation and help the pain.
Knee/Foot/Ankle Arthritis- Arthritis can be hereditary. In addition, it can be the result of an injury or an infection, or even from being overweight. The natural cushioning between the joints (cartilage) wears away. When this happens, the bones of the joints rub more closely against one another. The rubbing results in pain, swelling, stiffness, and decreased ability to move. Heat and cold therapy will help loosen and soothe the area.
Pregnancy- This can cause fluid to build up, so swelling in the feet, ankles and knees can often occur. In this case, cold therapy will help to reduce the swelling.
